Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Sophia University Strengthen Ties
In line with the willingness to forge academic and research collaborative relationships, last July 2023 two faculty of Pontificia Universidad Javeriana of Bogota’ visited the campus of Sophia University in Tokyo.
The main objective of this visit was to strengthen academic and research ties between both institutions and share knowledge in areas of mutual interest to strengthen both vision and mission as Jesuit universities.
The Javeriana’s delegation was composed by Professor Diego Patiño, Full Professor and Chair of Electronics department and by Leonardo Flórez Valencia, Director of the Master Degree of Artificial Intelligence department, and they were warmly welcomed by Professor Masafumi Miyatake, Chair of the Department of Engineering and Applied Sciences, and by Father Tad Gonsalves, S.J. including other members of their respective teams.
A series of enriching and productive activities in a meticulously planned agenda were conducted into Sophia campus: meetings with students, professors and researchers from Sophia University, whom provided valuable insights into their experiences and advancements in various fields of knowledge. These interactions were inspiring, leading to the identification of potential synergies for future joint projects.
Among the main findings of the visit, the identification of commons research interests has been recognized in the following fields:
- Automatic Control, Energy Efficiency and Artificial Intelligence, Efficient Use of Flexible Loads in Agriculture and Construction to Optimize Energy Efficiency, Optimization Techniques to Reduce Energy Consumption during the Operation Time of Energy-Efficient Vehicles with a focus on Environmental Sustainability.
Sophia and Javeriana universities were enthusiastic about the prospect of working together on research projects and academic development that distinguishes the Society of Jesus; respond to the prospects for innovation for build a fruitful academic collaboration and generate a positive impact for the benefit of the society.
