The JHEASA West Zone in collaboration with Xavier Institute of Engineering, Mahim, organized a One-day intensive hands-on workshop for teachers, was conducted at Xavier Institute of Engineering, Mahim, on 18th January, 2025 by the XIE faculty. The workshop was modelled on the current needs of teachers on Artificial Intelligence tools for teaching and research, curriculum designing and for creative writing. The participants of this workshop were teachers from all the four Jesuit higher education institutions in Mumbai, St. Xavier’s College (Empowered Autonomous), St. Xavier’s Institute of Education-SXIE (Autonomous), Xavier Institute of Engineering-XIE, Mahim and Xavier Institute of Management and Research (XIMR). The workshop was also attended by the Ph.D. Students of SXIE and one teacher from St. Mary’s ICSE school. The day started with a motivational introductory talk by Fr. Dr. John Rose, SJ and Principal Dr. Y. D. Venkatesh. The workshop started with a training of the use of different types of AI tools. We started with the concept of ‘Prompt Engineering’, which equips us with the proper training of AI according to our own needs.

Some of the tools that the teachers learnt were : Notion.ai to draw flow charts and preparing customized lesson plans, typeset.ai for writing research papers and design digital content, Wordtune.ai to expand statements, Affor.ai with its reference manager for effective review of related literature especially for research, Jenny.ai for developing research papers, ResearchRabbit.com for finding out similar research papers, Chat pdf as pdf editor, Consensus.ai for peer reviewed scientific journal, Trinka.ai for AI powered writing assistant, plagiarism check and journal finder, Plag.aifor plagiarism check, also the use of qtext.io to send information instantly to all students was also useful. The effective use of Kahoot.com was very well demonstrated by the faculty.

The outcomes of the workshop were measured through a Kahoot quiz, which was fun to participate. The day was enriching as all participants had a good experience, in the laboratory, working on the AI tools and reflecting on how they could use it for their teaching learning and research work. The coordinators for this workshop were Dr. Ninad More, Head of Department, Computer Engineering and Prof. Dr. Vini Sebastian, Deputy Coordinator, JHEASA West Zone, of St. Xavier’s Institute of Education (Autonomous), Mumbai. We thank Fr. Dr. John Rose, SJ, Director, XIE and JHEASA West Zone coordinator as well as Principal, Dr. Y.D. Venkatesh for all the guidance and help provided for this workshop.
