In August 2025, seven Jesuit universities came together to launch a landmark initiative: the Global Research Alliance of Jesuit Universities (GRAJU). Founded by Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines), Fordham University (USA), Georgetown University (USA), ITESO (Mexico), Sogang University (South Korea), the University of Deusto (Spain), and Namur University (Belgium), GRAJU marks a bold step toward deepening global research collaboration within the Jesuit higher education network.
Rooted in the Jesuit tradition of academic excellence, social justice, and service to humanity, GRAJU seeks to advance mission-driven, interdisciplinary research that addresses the world’s most pressing challenges. It envisions a global network of Jesuit institutions collaborating across regions and disciplines to generate transformative knowledge and promote the common good.
The alliance’s first major event—the GRAJU Inaugural Symposium—will take place from 9 to 12 March 2026 at Ateneo de Manila University’s Loyola Heights Campus. Titled “The AI Frontier and the Distinctives of Global Jesuit Higher Education”, the symposium will explore how emerging technologies like artificial intelligence can be harnessed to uphold human dignity, deepen formation, and respond to the mission of Jesuit universities.
Ateneo de Manila now welcomes submissions for paper and poster presentations that address the intersection of AI and Jesuit higher education.
This marks a significant moment for global collaboration in Jesuit higher education. Jesuit universities are encouraged to explore the possibility of engaging with GRAJU and contributing to its emerging research agenda grounded in Ignatian values and mission-driven inquiry.
