A magnetic glow of hope

Can a Jesuit be a magnet? I believe so! M.J. Peter is one such Jesuit. He irresistibly attracts the crippled, the lame, and the weak to himself with his magnetic therapy coupled with his vivacious personality. “...and they brought to him all the sick, those who were afflicted with various diseases and pains, demoniacs, epileptics, and paralytics, and he healed them” (Matt 4:24). A visit to Peter has itself a galvanizing effect! Peter’s good humor and support cheer up those around him.
Alternative Health Care Clinic, as it is known, had a modest beginning in 1995 in the village of Cilimpur, West Bengal, where “Peter began to treat people with magnets.” That small effort turned out to be consequential. A.H.C.C. in Kalidangal, Rampurhat, in West Bengal, is the hope of many of the afflicted from different parts of the Sub-Continent. Peter treats all sorts of bone, nerve, muscle, and many other problems. Remarkable! Most of the patients that Peter treats have been rejected by well-known doctors and hospitals! A.H.C.C is perhaps the most important apostolate in the South Asian Assistancy. This springs from the fact that there is no other alternative; thus, this ministry becomes an “essential service” within our option for the poor.

On April 24th, the Laboratory for Peace with Reconciliation (ReconciLAB), an initiative of the Jesuit University System (SUJ), presented the book and agenda titled "Alternativas hacia la paz con reconciliación". The project emerged following the tragic murder of Jesuit priests Javier Campos S.J. and Joaquín Mora S.J., as well as the guide Pedro Palma, in June 2022. The murder motivated the creation of a space for analysis and formulation of public policies focused on violence, justice, and peacebuilding.
The Magis Exchange Program is an initiative of the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU) that embodies the values of academic excellence, generosity, and social and environmental justice. Since its launch in 2019, the program has expanded from 28 to 39 participating institutions, promoting international and service experiences.
The WOMEN Network is one of the three strategic projects on which the Latin American IAJES Taskforce will focus its efforts during the following years. The objectives and actions will be framed under six dimensions: Formation, Mentoring, Mobility, Best Practices, Strategic Alliances, and Communications.
The recent gathering of the International Association of Jesuit Universities (IAJU) Board members at the General Curia in Rome, on March 25-26, 2024, marked a pivotal moment in the ongoing deliberations on the promotion of Jesuit Identity and Mission of Jesuit higher education institutions worldwide. With representatives from all regional networks, the meeting delved into crucial topics ranging from strategic planning to the promotion of Jesuit values in a rapidly changing world.
This meeting in the capital of Seville, just one year after the general meeting of rectors and directors of the UNIJES university network, various initiatives and strategic projects were discussed.
New conceptualizations such as "post-secularism" or "multiple secularities" have appeared in the academy, seeking to provide new approaches to understanding phenomena as diverse as the withdrawal of religion from the public sphere, the privatization of religion, the emergence of new forms of spirituality, fundamentalist violence, the emergence of more charismatic ways of experiencing religion, the decline in the communitarian and institutional practice or religious affiliation.
