The IAJU congratulates and welcomes Fr. Joseph Maria Christie, SJ for being appointed Secretary for Higher Education of the Society of Jesus, replacing Father Michael J. Garanzini, SJ. He will take office on August 4 of 2021, after the IAJU Assembly that will take place at Boston College.
Joseph Maria Christie is from the Madurai Province and is currently the director of XLRI, Xavier School of Management in Jamshedpur, India. He is also president of XAMI, the association of Jesuit management institutes in his country. He has held various positions of responsibility in the Madurai Province, especially the coordination of the apostolates and the management of the development office. Fr. Christie is versed in higher education and has been involved before in many different ways with the IAJU, he was part of the Steering Committee of the Assembly in Bilbao.
Fr Michael Garanzini has been appointed as the President of the Association of Colleges and Universities (AJCU) in North America, he will be taking office the first of July of 2020. Until August 2021, he will be wearing two hats, as President of the AJCU and as Secretary of Higher Education.
