IAJES in North America
Author: IAJES TEAM
Faculty members from North American Universities are active participants in the task forces in the International Association of Jesuit Engineering Schools(IAJES). Four of the task forces are led by faculty from North America including Gail Baura from Loyola University Chicago, who heads the Engineering and Social Justice task force, Allan Baez Morales from Santa Clara University who leads the Humanitarian Engineering task force, Aleksandar Zecevic from Santa Clara University who heads the Engineering, Ethics & Spirituality task force and Bryan Ranger from Boston College who heads the Healthcare task force. These task forces are involved in a range of activities from developing and sharing case studies on Social Justice to developing web-based platforms to disseminate information on humanitarian engineering projects at IAJES institutions.
A virtual meeting for IAJES members in North America will take place on February 2, 2023, from 11.30 - 3.30 p.m. Eastern Time hosted by Andres L. Carrano, Dean of the School of Engineering, Fairfield University and Siddhartan Govindasamy, North America Representative to the IAJES and Professor of Engineering at Boston College. The meeting will feature three sessions, namely Ignatian Pedagogy in Engineering Education, Professional Development Opportunities in the Jesuit University Network, and Reflection in Jesuit Engineering programs. Each session will feature presentations by representatives from North American IAJES members followed by open discussions. We hope that this meeting will provide the opportunity for colleagues in North American institutions to learn from and provide feedback to each other on the pedagogical approaches they use, in addition to learning about opportunities for professional development. Further details of the event will be forthcoming.
